The challenge
A client faced a high-stakes choice with far too many options to weigh by hand: close to three hundred candidates, each with dozens of attributes, judged against priorities that were personal and weighted differently from anyone else's. The default approach, a sprawling spreadsheet and a gut call, was never going to produce an answer they could trust or defend.
The specific decision was choosing a college, but the problem is universal: rank many options against weighted criteria, using real data, in a way you can explain.
What we built
A custom scoring engine. It ingests authoritative data on every option, scores each one against the client's weighted criteria across several dimensions, and returns a ranked shortlist with the reasoning visible. We wrapped it in an interactive dashboard: change a priority and the ranking updates in front of you, and every number traces back to a real source.
The score you see is one you can stand behind, traceable from the ranking all the way back to the source data.
The result
Instead of a guess, the client got a transparent, data-backed shortlist they could trust and defend, produced in a fraction of the time it would have taken by hand, and easy to re-run whenever priorities shifted.
